 Inez Taylor Prather  1924-2015

   “Together Again!”

Inez Taylor Prather, beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother and friend to all, peacefully passed away at age 91 on March 27, 2015 in her home.

She was born March 2, 1924 in Winder, Idaho to James and Vivian Taylor.  She learned to work hard on their farm and would work hard alongside the boys.  Her Dad loved her to drive the tractor because she would drive it straight and not get distracted.  They later moved to Preston, Idaho.
She married Glen Emerson Jacobs in 1944.  They were blessed with three children:  William (Maxine)  and Mary Jean (David) Harline and Steven ( Lisa) .  They divorced in 1955.

She married Rodney Duncan Smyth in 1956.  They were blessed with two daughters:  Joyce (Garth) Beutler) and Muriel (Homer) Proctor.  They later divorced.

She met  Lawrence Murl Prather at a single swingers square dance club and he swept her off her feet.  They married in 1972 and were later sealed in the Ogden Temple.  They were able to do some traveling together several times to Hawaii, Nauvoo and Branson but they found they enjoyed their own backyard the most!  Larry  worked as a temple worker and she volunteered at the Family History Center for over 10 years. He passed away in 1999.

She was an extremely hard worker.   She worked many different jobs: warehousing, clerking, salesperson and then went back to school in nursing.  This was the job that she loved the most.  She worked for about 10 years as a nurse many times working the graveyard shift so that she could tend to the needs of her youngest daughters during the day.  When she again became a single parent, she could not survive on nursing wages and so again went back to school and received training to repair aircraft instruments at Hill AFB  where she retired from 20 years later.

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served as Relief Society President, stake Young Women’s sports director and numerous other callings one of her favorite was a nursery leader for over 10 years.  She loved each child dearly and enjoyed watching them as they grew up in the ward.

She lived an exemplary life of service and was always giving her time to listen and counsel others as well as opened her home to nurse many, many people back to health. She spent many years visiting residents at the local nursing home helping give emotional, physical and spiritual support  Her friendship was extended to everyone.  She cherished her friendship with her sisters and brothers.

We have many treasured memories of spending time together.  She was first-most an excellent listener.  She always had time to listen to us whether it was on the phone or in person. She was a good cook and made flaky pie crusts, divine divinity and peanut brittle that wouldn’t crack your teeth..  She loved to play, work, work and play some more.  For many, many years she hosted family reunions in her spacious backyard.  Many families would end up staying for a week.

Her grandchildren were the extra sparkle in her eyes.  She has 19 grandchildren,  27 great grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren.  She will be greatly missed but forever fondly remembered by us all.  Preceded  in death by her husband in 1999.

Graveside services and interment will be held Saturday, April 4 at 11:00 am. At Leavitt Memorial Park at  836 -  36th street in Ogden.  A viewing will be held prior to the service from 9:30 to 10:30 am.  and Friday evening  from 6:00 to 8:00pm.
